VIDEO: Hundreds March Across New Brunswick in Solidarity With Ferguson

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—Hundreds of students, faculty, and community members rallied and marched across the city on November 25, in response to the decision of a St. Louis County, Missouri grand jury investigating the death of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri.

City officials estimate there were some 400 protestors, while organizers said there were more than 500 present for the march down George Street.

City Man Charged With Sexually Assaulting 6-Year-Old Girl in Boyd Park

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—Carlos Ocon, a 61-year-old New Brunswick resident, was arrested on July 26 and charged with sexually assaulting a six-year-old girl.

The assault, which took place on Friday July 25, allegedly occurred in Boyd Park, located between Route 18 and the Raritan River.

Through the investigation, it was determined that Ocon approached the child outside of a store on Remsen Avenue, and led her to Boyd park.

New Brunswick Chamber Orchestra Creates Festival Celebrating Music, Dance, and Art

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—New Brunswick’s Chamber Orchestra presented a weekendlong festival of events incorporating dance, art, and music for the community.

On Friday there was an opening reception at Alfa Art Gallery in which members of the New Brunswick Chamber Orchestra played and community members mingled.

The artwork of John Hawaka was also displayed. One of his pieces helped inspire the creation of the festival.

Gloria Steinem Speaks at Rutgers University on Media and Reality

PISCATAWAY, NJ—Gloria Steinem, a famous author, lecturer, editor, feminist activist, and opinion leader on issues of equality, spoke at the Livingston Student Center.

The Institute for Women’s Leadership Consortium organized this lecture. Members include Douglass Residential College, Center for Women and Work, Institute for Women and Art, Department of Women’s and Gender Studies, and several other organizations

The lecture was sponsored by Susan and Michael J. Angelides.
