Rutgers University Alumnus Creates “Fire Coach Kyle Flood” Online Fundraiser

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ–On November 7, a GoFundMe user named “Concerned Alumnus” created a campaign to raise $1.5 million dollars to buy out Rutgers University football coach Kyle Flood’s contract.

The fundraising page is run by an anonymous person who identifies as a “very proud Alumnus of Rutgers University and [as someone who] will always continue to advocate for it.”

Youth Empowerment Services Encourages New Brunswick Kids to Make Healthy Life Choices

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ–In a room on George Street filled with books, educational games, and bright posters on the walls, Barry Smith talks about hot dogs.

“We try to feed the kids every time,” he says, referring to the X-cite Night program. “On Monday they got hot dogs and chips.”

X-cite Night, a sports and recreation program that runs from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM on Monday and Thursdays, is one of the many programs run by Barry Smith, the staff, and the volunteers at Youth Empowerment Services.

Tween Library Program Helps Create Lifelong Readers

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—In a meeting room on the side of the children’s room at the New Brunswick Free Public Library, tween librarian Chelsea Woods encourages the participants of her Tween Stories Club to expand their imaginations.

“He might just be a cowboy, or an actor that dresses up,” she says while holding a small figurine of Woody from the Toy Story franchise.

This Tween Stories Club activity focused on story creation, narratives, and character development.

Green Party Candidate For US President Visits New Brunswick For Second Time This Year

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—Green Party Presidential candidate Jill Stein visited New Brunswick on the weekend of August 15-16 to talk to concerned residents about her presidential platform and about the Green Party in general.

Stein is a medical doctor from Massachusetts who says she now practices "political medicine" because modern-day politics is the most serious illness affecting everyday Americans.  She has previously run for Governor of Massachusetts in 2002, and made her first Presidential run in 2012.
