PRAB Keeps Families Warm This Winter Season With Home Energy Assistance Program

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—PRAB, a comprehensive human services agency located on Jersey Avenue, works hard each winter to make sure that every family in Middlesex County lives in the warm and comfortable house they deserve.

Initially started in 1969 as the Puerto Rican Action Board, PRAB has grown to be Middlesex County’s designated Community Action Agency and official processing agent for helping residents apply for energy assistance programs.

Controversy Arises Over Proposed Paid Sick Leave Ordinance

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ–On December 16th, New Brunswick City Council will hold a public hearing and, perhaps a final vote, on the city's proposed Paid Sick Leave Ordinance.

Known as Ordinance O-121501, this law would amend and supplement the revised general ordinances of the city, specifically Title 8, Chapter 56, to provide for "paid sick time" and "paid safe time" for many workers in New Brunswick.

Crossroads Theatre Celebrates Culture of African Diaspora, Brings Theatre to Community

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—Crossroads Theatre, located at the heart of Downtown at 7 Livingston Avenue, has a strong tradition of bringing African-American theater, stories, and traditions to the people of New Brunswick.

In 1999, Crossroads was the first African- American theatre to receive the Tony award for “Outstanding Regional Theatre” and they have been nominated for and won several other theatre and community awards.

Paid Sick Leave Ordinance on City Council Agenda

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—The New Brunswick City Council will introduce a Paid Sick Leave ordinance at its December 2 meeting.

The ordinance will require businesses to provide all full time employees with 40 hours of paid sick leave a year, and all part-time employees with 24 hours a year, in line with almost a dozen other cities in New Jersey.

But it will also include the strongest language yet to deal with temporary agencies, where one in every eight workers are employed.

Congrats to First-Ever “Hub City Hero” Award Winner Anthony Mendia

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—The first annual Hub City Hero award, a community service and activism award organized by New Brunswick Today, was awarded to Anthony Mendia on November 8, 2015.

Nominees for the Hub City Hero award were gathered from NBToday readership and other members of the public, and the top six nominees were opened to a public online voting process. Each nominee had a small biography about his or her work in the community and a portrait.
