Another City Resident Recovers Unpaid Wages Under New Brunswick Wage Theft Ordinance

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ–Another victim of wage theft has successfully recovered unpaid wages dating back to 2010 under the New Brunswick Wage Theft Ordinance.

When Irene Lopez left her position at La Hacienda Food and Grocery Store at 251 French Street in 2010, she requested that the balance of her wages be paid upon her departure.

But she did not receive them.

Forum Brings Together Community Leaders for Discussion on Food Justice

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—“I like knowing where my food comes from,” said Maria Ramirez, a participant in one of the many community gardens throughout the city facilitated by New Brunswick Community Food Alliance.

Ramirez was joined by leaders including for a discussion about the organization’s efforts to promote healthy food accessibility and equity in the Hub City at the NBCFA's annual "Food Forum," held January 10 at the Lord Stirling Community School.

New Brunswick Resident Resolves Wage Theft Case with Las Cazuelas Restaurant

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—A judgement owed to New Brunswick resident Mirna Gonzales Garcia has finally been paid by her former employer, Las Cazuelas.

This resolution comes as a conclusion to a more than two year long battle with the restaurant over allegedly unpaid wages and unfairly compensated overtime that amounted to over $7,000.

“I lost my job and friendships in this fight,” Garcia told New Brunswick Today.

Greater Brunswick Charter School Hosts Third Annual Global Cardboard Challenge

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—The Greater Brunswick Charter School invites community members to attend its third annual "Global Cardboard Challenge" from 8:30-11:30 am this Saturday, October 11.

This free event is open to the general public and invites children and families from all over to celebrate creativity and imagination.

As part of the Imagination Foundation’s Global Cardboard challenge, children from around the world construct projects from cardboard and recycled materials.
