New Bail and Speedy Trial Laws Take Effect in New Jersey

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—All defendants arrested on a warrant in New Jersey are now subject to a new system involving them being given a "risk assessment" score, also known as a Public Safety Assessment (PSA) score.

Thanks to new state laws, and an amendment to the State Constitution approved by voters in 2014, New Jersey courts have moved towards a new model of deciding conditions of release and bail for criminal defendants.

Moms Organize “Nurse-In” at East Brunswick YMCA After Mom Told Not to Breastfeed There

EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ–On the afternoon of Friday August 12, children played unphased in the front lobby of the Raritan Valley YMCA as their mothers nursed their baby siblings.

About a dozen mothers and children gathered in the front lobby of the Raritan Valley YMCA, located on Tices Lane in East Brunswick, where an incident of alleged discrimination against a breastfeeding mother recently took place.

CASA of Middlesex to Honor Mayor at May 1 Open House Brunch

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—Local nonprofit Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Middlesex County will honor Mayor James Cahill

Mayor Cahill, in addition to twelve others that make up an Honorary Committee will be acknowledged and honored at Steakhouse 85 during an open house brunch program on May 1.

“It’s a privilege to honor Mayor Jim Cahill at the Toast," said licensed social worker Stephanie Brown, who is the Program Director for CASA of Middlesex County.
