Free “Quick Peek” Developmental Screenings Available For Kids Age 1-5 at Public Library Thursday

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—This Thursday June 6 the Children’s Specialized Hospital will be providing free-of-charge, quick developmental screenings for children ages 1 to 5 years old at the New Brunswick Free Public Library, located at 60 Livingston Avenue.

The screenings, also known as Quick Peek, will be held every 30 minutes from 10am until 7pm.  Experts will be on hand and “sharing valuable resources for parents curious about their child's early development.”

Friends of Library Meeting Will Feature Independent Filmmaker

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—The New Brunswick Free Public Library's nonprofit organization will be welcoming an artist, author, and independent filmmaker Hisani P. Dubose tomorrow at 3pm in the Henry Guest House, next to the library on Livingston Avenue.

Dubose is an author, educator, and independent filmmaker.  She will be speaking about her 2010 book “Do I Have to be a Starving Artist in the 21st Century?”

Who is New County Prosecutor Andrew Carey?

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—Andrew Carey of New Providence is now entering his third week as Acting Middlesex County Prosecutor, but not much is known about the new appointee.

Jim O'Neill, longtime spokesman for the prosecutor's office confirmed that his new boss has not yet re-located to Middlesex County.  O'Neill said Carey's move is still in the works, but declined to say which municipality the prosecutor intends to move to.

Fossil Fuel Divestment Campaign Pushes for Rutgers to Stop Investing in Oil & Gas Companies

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—Students and Rutgers community members working to get the school to withdraw any financial stake it has in oil and gas companies.

The Rutgers Fossil Fuel Divestment Campaign describes itself as a “coalition of Rutgers community members working to push the Rutgers Governing Boards into divesting the University’s endowment from the fossil fuel industry.”

Non-Profit Recruiting Students to Volunteer in Homeless Community

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—On April 15, the first day of the weeklong Tent State University event, the co-founder and chief coordinating organizer of a local non-profit ran a workshop to inform the community about bout the organization, its roots, and what it aims to do in the city.

Homeless Empowerment Project Community Action Team (HEP/CAT) is a private non-profit focused on direct service to the homeless community, identifying and assisting homeless teens and young adults.

Rutgers Aresty Research Center Features Work of 450 Students at Annual Symposium

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—Last Friday, Rutgers University’s Aresty Research Center for Undergraduates held their ninth annual university-wide Undergraduate Research Symposium.

The Symposium was at the Rutgers Student Center on College Avenue, and it featured the work of 450 student researchers from over 60 different departments.

Graduate students and postdoctoral researchers evaluated the presentations.
