County Buys Wolfson Deck From NBPA For Second Time, Hoping to Create Downtown Park

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—The county is buying an aging parking deck for $4.75 million from the New Brunswick Parking Authority (NBPA), in an attempt to turn it into a downtown park.

NBPA officials said that the county was eager to close the deal on the 525-car parking garage by January 1, and other sources confirm the deck will close for good on February 1.

"Work to build a new County Park will commence in the latter half of 2015 and extend through 2016," said county spokeswoman Stacey Bersani.

Armed With a Shotgun, Home Invaders Assault Rutgers Student Inside Central Avenue Residence

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—The New Brunswick Police Department (NBPD) is investigating a series of robberies, including at least two that took place Monday night into Tuesday morning on opposite sides of the city.

One incident that police said fit a pattern took place on Central Avenue and involved a shotgun.  According to emergency radio transmissions, an ambulance was dispatched to aid one of the victims.

"Be advised, this is the third call in like three days, same description, same area," said one officer over the police radio.

Former Rutgers Student Charged With Arson After Allegedly Setting Fire to ARC Building

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—An arson investigation conducted by the Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office (MCPO), the Rutgers University Police Department (RUPD), and Edison Police Department has led to an arrest in connection with the fire at the Allison Road Classroom Building fire on Busch Campus in Piscataway.

The suspect has been identified as Shayam Sridhar, 21, a former Rutgers University student from Edison.

Armed Robbery Attempt at Central Av. and Prosper St. Causes Another Crime Alert

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—The New Brunswick Police Department is investigating a robbery that took place near the intersection of Central Avenue and Prosper Streets on Tuesday December 23, shortly before 6:45 p.m.

According to the New Brunswick Police, the victim was a female who is affiliated with Rutgers University. The victim reported being approached by two males. One of the men pulled out a firearm and demanded that the victim to turn over her property.
