Two Suspects Steal a Safe and $10,000 From Hansel ‘n Griddle Restaurant

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ–The New Brunswick Police Department (NBPD) is investigating a burglary that occurred at a popular Sixth Ward restaurant, “Hansel 'n Griddle.”

The burglary occurred during the early hours of Wednesday May 27, at the store's location at 130 Easton Avenue.  It's one of the four locations in Central New Jersey.

Video surveillance footage provided to the NBPD shows two male suspects exiting a white Nissan Altima in the area of the restaurant approximately ten minutes before the attempted break in.

Woman Robbed at Gunpoint Near Corner of Easton and Prosper

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—Police say a man with a gun took a woman's purse on Easton Avenue at approximately 10:53pm on May 18 and hopped into the passenger seat of a vehicle headed towards downtown.

The New Brunswick Police Department (NBPD) is investigating the armed robbery, which occurred near the intersection with Prosper Street, according to a Rutgers University crime alert.

Police Arrest Suspect Who Allegedly Fired Gun in Downtown

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—A team of officers from the New Brunswick Police Department (NBPD) and the Rutgers University Police Department (RUPD) responded to a gunshot reportedly fired from a porch on Bayard Street in downtown on the evening of May 15 at about 10:30pm.

The police, who are part of a "Neighborhood Patrol Team" that focuses on the Fifth and Sixth wards, were directed by local residents to the location of a man they said had recently fired his weapon off in the air.

New Brunswick Police Looking Into Use Of Body Cameras

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ— The New Brunswick Police Department (NBPD) is looking into the use of wearable "body cameras" for its own police force.

“The police department supports the use of body cameras and is looking into the logistics behind the implementation of body cameras 'department wide,'” said New Brunswick Police Captain J.T. Miller.

“There are several issues which need to be researched and addressed prior to any physical implementation.”

Robbery at Knifepoint at Louis and Central Generates Crime Alert

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ–The New Brunswick Police Department (NBPD) is investigating a robbery in which four male suspects held up several victims at knifepoint near a liquor store at the corner of Louis Street and Central Avenue.

The liquor store had been closed for hours when the robbery occurred at approximately 2:11 a.m. on Thursday, April 30.

The victims were affiliated with Rutgers University, according to a RUPD crime alert issued later that day.

Student Pistol-Whipped During Home Invasion Robbery on Guilden Street

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—The New Brunswick Police Department (NBPD) is investigating a robbery where a college student was pistol-whipped, according to a Rutgers University crime alert.

The robbery took place at 1:47 a.m. on April 23 in an off-campus residence, on Guilden Street between Bristol and Prosper Streets.

According to the alert, the victims of this robbery reported hearing voices outside of their residence.  Upon checking the alleyway next to the residence, they discovered three male suspects wearing masks, it says.

RUPD Seeks Suspect in Criminal Sexual Contact at Alexander Library

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ–The Rutgers University Police Department (RUPD) is investigating an act of criminal sexual contact reported on April 15 at approximately 9:20 p.m.

The incident occurred inside the women's bathroom on the second floor of the Alexander Library located on College Avenue near Senior Street.

According to the RUPD, the suspect entered the second floor women’s bathroom, exposed himself, and inappropriately touched a female victim.
