Rutgers Cops to Wear Cameras, But Videos May Be Kept Secret

PISCATAWAY, NJ—New Jersey's top law enforcement official wants to keep police videos confidential, at the same time his office is funding the purchase of thousands of cameras to be worn by police across the state.

On the campus of Rutgers University, Acting Attorney General John Hoffman took questions from the press and admitted that he wants most police videos to be kept secret from the press and the public while criminal cases proceed, and perhaps even after the cases have concluded.

Crime Alert: Rutgers Student Held Up at Knifepoint on George St.

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—The Rutgers University Police Department (RUPD) is investigating an armed robbery, which was reported to have occurred on George Street on the Rutgers campus.

This incident was reported to have occurred at approximately 11:55 p.m. on Saturday, October 31, on the stretch of George Street that is home to the school's "river dorms," named for their views of the nearby Raritan River.

Crime Alert: Woman Held Up at Knifepoint by Masked Perpetrator

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—New Brunswick Police Department (NBPD) officers responded to a report of an armed robbery  on Saturday Octover 17, at approximately 11:55 P.M. in the area of Somerset Street and Maple Street, according to a Rutgers University crime alert.

According to police radio transmissions, a male suspect approached a female victim near Loui Pizza City on Somerset Street.

Crime Alert: NBPD Investigating Aggravated Assault on Easton

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—Another Rutgers-affiliated person was injured in a violent assault on Friday, October 9 at approximately 2:10 A.M. at the intersection of Easton Avenue and Mine Street, according to a Rutgers University crime alert.

The incident occurred shortly after last call at the city's dozens of bars, including Olde Queens Tavern, which is located at the same intersection.

New Brunswick Police Department (NBPD) Detectives were seen checking out surveillance video from a nearby shop later in the day.

Crime Alert: Early Morning Aggravated Assault Incident Behind Frathouse

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—The New Brunswick Police Department (NBPD) is investigating an aggravated assault with a sharp object, according to a Rutgers University crime alert.

The incident took place early on Sunday, October 4 at approximately 1:53 A.M. behind 18 College Avenue, the home of Sigma Phi Epsilon (SigEp), a fraternity that lost recognition from its national chapter and Rutgers University.
