New Brunswick Boxing Legend Jorge Diaz Returns to the Ring

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—Jorge "King" Diaz, born and raised in New Brunswick and a proud NBHS graduate, has enjoyed great success as a professional boxer, and is now preparing for a Friday night bout in the Ukranian Cultural Center at 135 Davison Avenue in Somerset.

The fight will take place on Friday, October 24, where Diaz will be fighting Jose Haro as part of GH3 Promotions' "Friday Night Fights" undercard.  Eight other fights will also take place making for an action packed night.

Rutgers Student Activities Center Convenience Store Burglarized

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—Rutgers Police are investigating a burglary at the convenience store located inside the Student Activities Center on George Street, according to a crime alert.

At approximately 3:50 am on October 10, a suspect gained entry to the covenience store by breaking the glass window and stole several valuable items.

The suspect, who police say is not affiliated with the school, has been identified and a warrant has been issued for his arrest.

Zebras Football Team Wins First Game Under New Head Coach

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ–The future is looking brighter than usual for New Brunswick High School's football team.

On Friday, September 19, the Zebras defeated the South Plainfield High School Tigers 21-19 in front of a highly energetic home crowd at Memorial Stadium in New Brunswick.

The win was New Brunswick's first regular season victory since 2012.

The Zebras took command early as their defense shut down the Tigers offense and kept South Plainfield scoreless thoroughout the first half of the game.

Coach Don Sofilkanich Comes Full Circle, Returning to NBHS Football Program

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—At a time when the the struggling New Brunswick High School football team needs all the help it can get, some say they finally have something to be happy about: a new head coach.

Don Sofilkanich will replace Castor Losada as the team's head coach in the 2014 season.  A graduate of East Brunswick High School, Sofilkanich spent many years as an assistant coach under NBHS' John Quinn.

Raised on Remsen Avenue, Super Bowl Champion Jonathan Casillas Makes New Brunswick Proud

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—Former New Brunswick High School standout and one-time Super Bowl champion Jonathan Casillas is going into his 6th year in the NFL, and just signed another one-year contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Casillas won his Super Bowl championship in 2010 as a member of the New Orleans Saints, a source of pride for that city and Casillas' hometown of New Brunswick.

He is one of the first, if not the first NFL player from New Brunswick to win a Super Bowl.
