Wegmans Recalls Frozen Organic Spinach Over Listeria Concerns

WOODBRIDGE, NJ–Wegmans has recalled more than 12,000 packages of its own 12-ounce "Organic Food You Feel Good About Just Picked Frozen Spinach" (UPC 77890-32932), due to possible listeria contamination, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced.

The product was sold in the frozen food department of the company’s 85 stores in New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Virginia, Maryland, and Massachusetts between January 27 and March 21.

After-School Running Program For Girls Seeks College Student Volunteers

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ–“New Brunswick Runs Proud,” a free after-school program that helps prepare third, fourth, and fifth-grade girls, both physically and emotionally, to complete a 5K road race, is recruiting college volunteers for its upcoming spring season.

The program starts on Tuesday, March 24 at Lincoln Elementary School, and meets two days per week for 6-8 weeks during the season.

J&J To Pay $25 Million Fine After Pleading Guilty to Selling Metal-Contaminated Tylenol For Kids

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—A Johnson & Johnson subsidiary pleaded guilty on March 10 to a federal criminal charge that it sold infants and children's over-the-counter (OTC) liquid medicine that had been "adulterated" with contaminants due to bad manufacturing processes.

“As part of the criminal resolution, McNeil [Consumer Healthcare], a wholly owned subsidiary of Johnson & Johnson, agreed to pay a criminal fine of $20 million and forfeit $5 million,” reads a US Department of Justice announcement.

Drug Company Completes $8 Million Upgrade to Hub City Plant

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—On March 2, Hemispherx Biopharma, Inc. a Philadelphia-based company with a manufacturing facility located on Jersey Avenue, announced that it has finished upgrades totaling $8 million to its Hub City plant.

The upgrades to the facility will provide the capacity to supply both the U.S. and South American market, the company said.

The company said the plant will benefit from a more cost-effective manufacturing process for the production of Alferon N Injection, the only FDA-approved natural alpha interferon.
