Rutgers Had No Written Contract With ProctorTrack Company For First 7 Months of 1-Year Agreement

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—No written contract existed between Rutgers University and Verificient Technologies, the company responsible for the student-monitoring, anti-cheating software ProctorTrack, during the first seven months that their software was rolled out.

Instead, Verificient and the Rutgers Center for Online and Hybrid Leaning (COHILT) had a "verbal agreement" while the contract was under legal review, according to Rutgers Media Relations.

On Presidential Campaign Trail, Christie to Visit Hub City

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—New Jersey Governor and 2016 presidential candidate Chris Christie is set to hold a press conference at the Rutgers Chabad House on Tuesday, August 25, at 11 am.

The event marks the first time Christie will be making a public appearance in New Brunswick since he declared his candidacy for President, and his second appearance in the Hub City this year.

This year, the Governor has spent a majority of his time out-of-state in pursuit of his presidential aspirations.

Governor Christie Vetoes Bill That Would Have Expanded Recovery High School Program

TRENTON, NJ—Governor Christie vetoed a bill on August 10 that would have created three additional recovery high schools for addicts in New Jersey.

The recovery high school pilot program was established on Kean University's campus, and passed in 2014. The law created the first school in the state that focused on recovery from drug and alcohol addiction.

North Brunswick Warehouse That Burned Down Had Unresolved Fire Safety Issues

NORTH BRUNSWICK, NJ—Inspection records show that the warehouse that burned to the ground in July had a number of unresolved fire safety issues in the weeks leading up to the incident.

The massive fire broke out at the 37-acre warehouse near the intersection of Route 1 and Livingston Avenue at approximately 2:00 am on July 22, causing traffic delays and pollution concerns.

Nearly 1,000 firefighters from 157 fire companies kept the fire from spreading any further over the next five days, but the warehouse was completely destroyed.

Christie Again Vetoes Bill Making Birth Certicate Changes Easier For Trans Individuals

TRENTON, NJ—For the second time, Governor Christie vetoed a bill that would have made it easier for transgender individuals to change their name and gender on their birth certificate. 

The bill would have changed the law so that a person hoping to change the name and gender on a birth certificate would not be required to provide proof that they underwent a "sex change" operation, a procedure that many individuals cannot afford.

Former Chair of Rutgers Trustees Joins Rutgers Board of Governors

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—The Rutgers Board of Governors' newest member, North Carolina resident Sandy J. Stewart, was sworn in at the board's July 16 meeting in New Brunswick.

Stewart earned a Bachelor of Arts from the Rutgers Camden College of Arts and Sciences in 1981, and a Masters of Science from the Graduate School at Rutgers Camden in 1987.
