Source: NBMS Students Were Forced to Run Outside in Winter For Violating Uniform Policy

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—The school district's top official confirmed what an anonymous source told New Brunswick Today about an incident where students at New Brunswick Middle School were made to run outdoors in cold weather.

Superintendent of Schools Aubrey Johnson said on January 18 that he was aware of the controversial December 23 incident, which rubbed some in the school community the wrong way.

Immigration Agents Arrest “Most Wanted” Fugitive in New Brunswick

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—On January 31, agents with the federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency arrested 37-year-old Javier Atlixqueno-Vaquero, a fugitive on their "most wanted" list, in New Brunswick.

Atlixqueno-Vaquero was reportedly on the #2 spot on the dubious list of undocumented immigrants with serious criminal convictions that the government hopes to remove from the country.

The Mexican citizen had reportedly been convicted of multiple felony charges, including sexually assaulting a minor.

Allegedly Posing as a Cop, Man Attacks Woman and Takes Her Car

EDISON, NJ—A man was arrested after allegedly attacking and carjacking a woman in the parking lot of an Edison strip mall, all while posing as a police officer.

John Spina, a 44-year-old man from Sayreville, then led actual police all the way to his hometown as they chased the stolen vehicle, before Spina crashed three times and injured himself.

The dramatic scene began to unfold on January 10 in the parking lot of the Wick Plaza shopping mall on Route 1, less than a mile from New Brunswick.

Woman Gets 30-Year Prison Sentence For 1991 Murder of Her Son

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—A woman who was convicted by a jury of killing her son, Timothy Wiltsey, in 1991 has been sentenced to serve 30 years in state prison.

The nation's attention was captured by the news of his disappearance that fall, with his picture and information shared all over news platforms and throughout the community.

Wiltsey's mother, Michele Lodzinski, kept changing her story about how or if the boy had disappeared, or if he had been abducted.

Man Arrested After Attempted Robbery at Somerset Street Deli

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—The New Brunswick Police Department (NBPD) confirmed that one person was arrested early morning on January 7, after attempting rob Dani’s Deli And Grocery Store on Somerset Street. 

Charles Bivens, a 32-year-old from Highland Park, was later released on January 10 under New Jersey's new pre-trial detention policies.

Bivens was arrested and charged with Robbery and Tampering with Evidence, according to the NBPD spokesperson.

Helmetta Firefighter Arrested on Child Pornography Charges

HELMETTA, NJ—A volunteer firefighter has been arrested on charges of possessing and distributing child pornography, according to Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew C. Carey.

Daniel Leal, a 24-year-old man from Helmetta was arrested at his home on January 5, following an investigation done by the Helmetta Police Department and the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office (MCPO).
