17-Year-Old City Resident With Cerebral Palsy Receives “Dream Trip” to Disney World

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—A 17-year-old New Brunswick resident was recently granted a dream trip to visit the Walt Disney World theme parks by the Sunshine Foundation, which answers the dreams of children living with life-long chronic illnesses.

Zaire, who has been diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy and developmental delays, took the trip with his grandmother and caregiver, Beverly Marshall, as well as his nurse from Bayada Home Health Care and other family members.

Public Library Using $10K Grant to Host Community Programs

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—The New Brunswick Public Library will use a $10,000 LibraryLinkNJ grant to host programs for the community such as sewing, knitting and crocheting, jewelry making, paper crafts, and rainbow looms.

Young Adult Librarian Rosy Henderson said the library hopes to host open houses this summer and launch the new programs this fall.

“We're definitely going to be doing open houses so everyone is familiar with what we have,” Henderson said.

VIDEO: Amid Protests Over Pedestrian Crash, County Fast-tracks Proposed Changes to Livingston Avenue

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—A report issued in March by Rutgers University suggested major changes to Livingston Avenue, but the changes proposed came too late to prevent a tragic crash that seriously injured three local children last week.

However, some ideas in the 24-page report have now been fast-tracked by Middlesex County, which owns the dangerous road.

Fire Director Crashes Into Three Children on Livingston Avenue

UPDATE (10:10PM): This story has been updated to include information from NBC New York and the Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office.

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—New Brunswick's Fire Director was involved in a car accident that seriously injured three children this afternoon on Livingston Avenue.

The youngest of the children was a six-year-old boy, who was struck along with two 14-year-old girls, one of whom sufferred a broken leg, according to NBC New York.

New Brunswick Celebrates Urban Clean-Up Week

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—The City of New Brunswick will host a number of cleanup events in honor of Urban Clean-Up week, which spans from April 21-27.

These will include litter cleanups at various locations throughout the city, as well as opportunities for residents to recycle electronics and obtain free compost, mulch and flowers.

Monday, April 21 is Make Your Storefront Look Great Day. Volunteers will help businesses remove litter from the storefront, wash sidewalks, and remove graffiti and clean windows.

RWJ Hosts Day of Hope For Child Abuse Prevention Organization

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—In honor of the "National Day of Hope," Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital (RWJUH) and Prevent Child Abuse New Jersey (PCA-NJ) hosted a workshop titled “Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention: Basics 101” on April 2.

National Day of Hope is observed on the first Wednesday of every April as part of National Child Abuse Prevention Month.

Over 30 participants were in attendance including RWJUH staff, nurses, nursing students, medical students, chaplains, and other local community members.
