NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—A popular indie punk band returns to New Brunswick on March 26 for a performance at “Corefest,” an annual music festival hosted on the Rutgers University campus.

RLC-WVPH, better known as 90.3 The Core, is a local radio station operated by Rutgers University and Piscataway High School.

Every year, the station hosts its annual music festival Corefest which is open to both Rutgers students and to the general public.

Headlining this year, once again, is the nationally touring Screaming Females, a magnetic three-piece indie punk band that was formed in New Brunswick in 2005.

“Just announced our first hometown gig in quite a while! Thanks to 90.3 FM The Core we will be back in New Brunswick, NJ at the College Ave Student Center on March 26,” reads the Screaming Females website.

The band has been with Don Giovanni Records, also of New Brunswick, since 2009.

New Brunswick-based bands Toads and Valentines Day will also be performing. The show starts at 3:30pm.

Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at the door. Visitors from outside of Rutgers University will need to show proof of COVID-19 vaccination or a negative COVID test within 72 hours. We will be checking RUID’s as proof of student vaccination.

Visitors may park in Lots 26, 30, and the College Avenue Deck.

This year, Corefest 2022 will take place in the Multipurpose Room at the College Avenue Student Center, located at 126 College Avenue.

There will also be a number of local vendors at Corefest, including:

  • Spina Records (records)
  • rattatatz (flash and custom tattoos)
  • Eva Finn (handmade jewelry and coaps)
  • Pablo Garcia + Mom (handmade earrings)
  • FK boutique (vintage and custom apparels)
  • Jeff C. (CDs, vinyls, and digital music)
  • Haley Potter (illustrations and prints)
  • Art by Merna (prints and jewlery)
  • Native Ohr (holistic care)

For years, the punk indie band toured basement shows in New Brunswick.

Screaming Females was one of the first bands to have performed on NPR’s Tiny Desk Music Concert.

The band always seems to make the time to come back to New Brunswick and deliver an energetic performance packed with pure electricity, blaring guitar riffs and haunting poetic lines.

In September 2015, the band played in New Brunswick’s Boyd Park along with a plethora of other bands and hosted by Rutgers graduate and comedian Chris Gethard.

Screaming Females contributes to the vibrant New Brunswick community in many artful ways. In 2014, frontman Marisa Paternoster painted a mural on the side of the Plum Street Parking Deck.
