NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ–Leclerc Foods, a PA-based distributor issued a recall on November 23 of a single lot of “Fit & Active Chocolatey Chip Protein Meal Bars” with a “best by” date of May 24, 2018.

The bars were shipped to and sold by Aldi supermarkets in New Jersey and 20 other states.

According to a news release, the recall “was initiated as a precautionary measure after a small piece of yellow plastic was [found] by a consumer in the product.

Nobody has reported becoming sick and no injuries have surfaced related to the 9.5 oz. boxes containing six bars each.  The date code is printed in white on the box.

All 43 Aldi locations in New Jersey that sell the recalled bars have removed them from shelves, according to the release. The UPC Code of the affected bars is: 41498-18695.

The other states where the bars were distributed include: Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Massachusetts, Maryland, District of Columbia, New Hampshire, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Vermont, Virginia and West Virginia.

While Aldi said earlier this year it would ramp up its US Expansion and aim for 2,500 Stores by the end of 2022, its newest Middlesex county location will be a store in Old Bridge in the Kohl’s Shopping Center on Route 9 North, near a BJ’s Wholesale Club.

There is an established ALDI on Van Dyke Avenue in Hub City. The chain launched a store in East Brunswick several months ago raising its NJ store count to more than 40.

That new store on Route 18 North is located in a space that formerly housed a Pathmark which closed during the bankruptcy of the Great American Pacific Tea Company (A&P).
