Cost of NBPD Corruption and Racism Cases Tops $2 Million

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—Taxpayers as far away as Pompton Lakes are sharing a growing, multi-million dollar financial burden to fund a team of lawyers representing New Brunswick's Mayor and top police brass in two serious court cases.

In 2012, four African-American police officers filed lawsuits claiming they were discriminated against by their corrupt bosses.

Now, after five years of preparation and posturing, one of the two New Brunswick Police Department (NBPD) cases has been settled.

Johnson & Johnson Partners With World’s Largest Medical Center

HOUSTON, TX–On November 9, Johnson & Johnson Medical Devices Companies (J&JMDC) officially opened the Center for Device Innovation at the Texas Medical Center (CDI@TMC).

A collaboration between the Houston-based medical center and Johnson & Johnson Innovation LLC, the new facility will “accelerate development of breakthrough medical devices technologies,” according to a news release.

It represents another significant American expansion for the corporate giant based in New Brunswick.

Ex-Mayor of Spotswood Charged With Stealing From Scholarship Fund

SPOTSWOOD, NJ—Less than a year after losing his re-election bid, former Mayor Nicholas Poliseno is now facing criminal charges of third-degree charges of stealing from a local scholarship fund.

County Prosecutor Andrew Carey's office filed criminal charges against Poliseno, and the 39-year-old former politician was allowed to surrender to authorities on October 10.

Ex-Boyfriend Found Guilty of Killing 24-Year-Old Hub City Resident

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—A city resident was found guilty of stalking and killing his 24-year-old ex-girlfriend, Alicia Martinez-Izaguirr, as she arrived for work on the morning of June 24, 2015.

Giver Quiroz-Vasquez was convicted of the killing after a jury trial, and will now face between 30 years and life in prison when he is sentenced on January 18 by Superior Court Judge Pedro J. Jimenez, Jr.

Recall Issued For Fit & Active Protein Meal Bars Sold at Aldi Stores

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ–Leclerc Foods, a PA-based distributor issued a recall on November 23 of a single lot of “Fit & Active Chocolatey Chip Protein Meal Bars” with a “best by” date of May 24, 2018.

The bars were shipped to and sold by Aldi supermarkets in New Jersey and 20 other states.

According to a news release, the recall “was initiated as a precautionary measure after a small piece of yellow plastic was [found] by a consumer in the product.

NBHA Chair Lashes Out, Claiming News Editor is Under Investigation

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—Chairing an off-the-rails public meeting on November 15, the leader of the New Brunswick Housing Authority (NBHA) lashed out and accused this reporter of both spreading lies and being under investigation.

It had been seven weeks since the board had met in public, and the first meeting since a scathing federal audit questioned over $1.4 million in the Housing Authority's spending.

For the first time in years, residents showed up en masse to voice their concerns about the communities run by the NBHA.
