NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—Police announced they are seeking the public’s help in identifying a man who robbed a female’s purse near Starbucks back on July 24.

According to the New Brunswick Police Department (NBPD) press release published three weeks after the incident, the robbery began when the thief followed the woman up Church Street after she exited the George Street Starbucks at around 8 am.

Before and after the thief took off running with the victim’s purse, his image was apparently captured on multiple surveillance cameras.

“As they approached Spring Street the suspect grabbed the victim’s purse and fled back down Church Street towards George Street,” read the NBPD press release issued on August 16.

A nearby witness saw the robbery and chased after the man, but stood down after the thief stated he had a gun.

Police advised people that might come into a scenario like this one to be careful as the other person could cause serious harm to you.

The suspect was last seen running on Albany Street towards Neilson Street, according to the release.

He was described by police as “an African American male approximately 5’10” in height.”  Surveillance images showed him wearing a red sweater with the number “99” on the back, gray sweatpants, and red shoes on the day of the crime.

Police ask anyone with information to call Detective Drew Weiss (732) 745-5217. Anyone witnessing a crime can anonymously call 911 if it’s an emergency or (732) 745-5200 for non-emergencies.
