NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—Detectives were spotted investigating another shooting that took place near Throop Avenue and Comstock Street in the city’s Second Ward.

It was shortly before mignight on Sunday, August 5, and it looked like it might be the last major crime of the day.

It was a day that already had seen two men injured in an aggravated assault on the other side of the city.

But more crime was still to come before the clock struck midnight.

Seven blocks away from the shots fired call, two friends who were carjacked on Throop Avenue near Townsend Street.

It was just another summer day in a city where crime, and public awareness of it, tends to increase during that time of year.

The initial early morning altercation, which was the subject of a Rutgers crime alert, saw an verbal altercation on Union Street escalate into an assault of two adult men at 2:35am.

The victims were a 23-year-old male from North Brunswick and a 24-year-old male from Edison, whose names were not released in the crime alert.

“There was no indication of the use of weapons during the assault,” read the alert.

The North Brunswick victim sustained a head injury and is currently being treated at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, whereas the victim from Edison acquired minor scratches and neck bruising but declined medical assistance.

The New Brunswick Police Department (NBPD) is investigating all three crimes, but has not indicated that any of the three are related.

NBPD has only released limited descriptions of the suspects saying that they are seeking three to five white males as well as one Hispanic or Asian male.  No clothing description or direction of travel were provided by authorities.

Descriptions of the perpetrators are limited at this time.

Some 21 hours later, residents had reported multiple shots being fired in the Second Ward, just a block away from the location that three men were later injured in a shooting on September 20.

But on this summer night, the shots hadn’t struck anyone, or if they did.  Police and an ambulance responded to the scene but no one was injured thankfully.

City police officers were seen entering and exiting a home 163 Throop while others looked for bullets, shell casings, or other evidence.

Soon after, they closed the sidewalk a few steps away from the home after locating some shells.

But it wasn’t over yet.  At 11:58pm, officers were summonded to the carjacking.

The NBPD issued a press release on the carjacking incident, but not the other two crimes.  Their official statement said the victim was approached by the suspects described as three African-Americans males who demanded the keys.

No one was injured during the robbery, the vehicle described as a Nissan Murano 2007 LP with the license plates “P10-GZX.”

The vehicle was located the following day in Newark, but police have not announced any charges filed in the case.

It’s unknown if anything was stolen from the vehicle or if it sustained any damage.

Anyone with information in any of the cases can contact the New Brunswick Police Department (NBPD) Major Crimes Unit at (732) 745-5217.
