Residents Rally Outside Congressman’s Office to Support Medicare

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—Healthcare continues to be one of the top political issues in the country today, as evidenced by a July 24 rally in New Brunswick, which is sometimes called "the Healthcare City."

Citizens are fed up with Congress for the constant, seemingly never-ending battle over healthcare legislation, which culminated with the narrow defeat of a bill to repeal the Affordable Care Act (ACA) in the early moring hours of July 28.

Both of New Jersey's Senators opposed the bill, which failed by one vote.

Rutgers Art Museum’s Annual Summer Program a Big Hit

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—In June and July, Rutgers University's Zimmerli Art Museum held its annual summer art program, where teaching artists help local kids "explore their creative sides and develop new skills in the arts."

The program is open to children between the ages of seven and 14, and its faculty is led by Wes Sherman, an independent artist and Master's in Fine Arts graduate of the Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers.  Sherman has been with the Zimmerli for 16 years.

Freeholder Director Requests Moving Proposed Compressor Station to “More Remote Area”

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—Middlesex County Freeholder Director, Ronald Rios, released a letter on June 15 requesting that a controversial gas compressor station proposed for Franklin Township be moved to a "more remote area."

The station is part of a major natural gas infrastructure project planned by Williams Transco, an Oklahoma-based oil and gas company looking to expand their existing pipelines throughout Central New Jersey.

MCPO: Monroe Man Asked 14-Year-Old Boy to Perform Oral Sex

MONROE, NJ—Michael Tuhy, 30-year-old Township resident, is facing charges of lewdness, third-degree endangering sexual contact with a child, and making terroristic threats following his July 13 arrest.

According to the initial complaint filed against him, Michael A. Tuhy threatened a 14-year-old boy and asked the boy to perform oral sex on him.  It also stated that Tuhy exposed his penis and urinated in front of the victim.

Police: 25-Year-Old Man Arrested After Killing Mother of Four

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—Authorities confirmed that they have arrested a North Brunswick man they believe is responsible for the city's second homicide of 2017.

The fatal shooting occurred on Seventh Street, two blocks north of the New Brunswick Middle School, at around 10:30 am on July 14.

In a press statement three days later, the Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office (MCPO) identified 25-year-old Christian Cortes as the shooter who took the life of Desiree Alvarado, a 38-year-old mother of four.

Hub City Resident Awarded Utilities Industry’s Highest Honor

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—Jeanne M. Fox learned at a young age the self-confidence that she would use to propel herself through a career full of impressive achievements, and devout public servitude.

That self-confidence came from many places, including her “working-class hometown” of Maple Shade, NJ and her time as a student in Douglass College at Rutgers University during the mid-1970’s.
