Zimmerli Exhibit Asks: Which Do You Prefer, Cats or Dogs?

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—Rutgers University's Zimmerli Art Museum opened their newest exhibition, "Cats vs. Dogs: Illustrations for Children’s Literature," on July 1 in the Duvoisin Gallery.

The series depicts cats and dogs alongside each other in many adventures that display their most notable characteristics: the calm and curious behavior of cats, as well as the playful and excited behavior of dogs.

Firefighter Critically Injured After His Piscataway Home Explodes

PISCATAWAY, NJ—Joe Keleman, a  Piscataway resident and volunteer firefighter for Dunellen Fire Department, is currently facing treatment for multiple injuries after a  gas explosion in his home.

The home is located at 85 Hopkinson Avenue, where the explosion shook the neighborhood around 4 a.m. on June 11, 2017.

The gas company for the area, PS&G, was contacted about the explosion.

New Brunswick Resident Competes on FOX Reality Show

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—Hub City resident Scarlett Angelina is featured the second season of the show American Grit, a "military-inspired competition that follows 17 of the country's fiercest men and women."

American Grit is a reality competition show filmed in Hampton Island, Georgia, and hosted by WWE superstar John Cena.  The show airs on Sundays at 9:00pm on Fox.

Angelina graduated from Middlesex County College and Rutgers University, and is currently a model, actress, and publicist.

Carteret Man Indicted on Charges He Impersonated His Dead Mother

CARTERET, NJ—Nicholas Schneiderman, a 43-year-old man from Carteret, was indicted by a state grand jury June 20 on charges including insurance fraud and theft by deception.

The charges came after Schneiderman allegedly tried to impersonate his deceased mother to acquire a lower price on renter's insurance using her senior discount.

He also allegedly made false claims related to his mother's jewelry, and other valuables stolen from him during 2012's Superstorm Sandy.

Rajiv Satyal Takes a Stand at Stress Factory

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—On Sunday, July 16, the Stress Factory will be featuring the comedic stylings of Rajiv Satyal, whose act includes a unique fusion of comedy and popular music.

The Stress Factory, located on Church Street, will be one of many stops on Satyal's East Coast leg of his nationwide tour, which runs from June 29 through September 21.

Woodbridge Man Found Guilty of Murder in Six-Year-Old Case

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—In a case that dates back almost six years, a Woodbridge man was convicted on June 20 of both murder and conspiracy to commit murder after an eight-week trial in New Brunswick.

The jury found that, on November 6, 2011, Michael Doce convinced co-defendant Daniel F. Medaglia to fatally beat Edison resident Kelvin Dumo.

Dumo was remembered by friends and family as a happy young man with a big smile and a passion for art, according to comments in an online obituary.

Cyberattacks Becoming Increasingly Prevalent and Devastating

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ–While cyber attacks have been propagated in the past, never before has a wave of this magnitude washed over such a wide gamut of systems on a global level.

Federal agents investigated a string of Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks against Rutgers University in 2015, and a series of "spearphishing" attacks against Democratic Party campaigns in 2016, but the latest trend in cyberattacks is "ransomware."
