NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—Summer time means movie time in New Brunswick as the the State Theater presents free movie screenings at 15 Livingston Avenue.

There are still three films left to be screened in the series of six this summer.  Each film is shown twice, once in the morning and once in the evening to accomodate families.

Coming up on Tuesday, July 25, the historic theatre will be showing Zootopia, a comedy/adventure animation.

In this Disney film that won the 2017 Academy Award for Best Animated Feature, Officer Judy Hopps discovers that it is hard to be the first rabbit on the police force.

One week later, the 1964 musical Mary Poppins will be shown at State Theater on Tuesday, August 1.

It’s a jolly holiday with Mary.  No wonder that it’s Mary that everyone grows to love.

The musical stars Julie Andrews as Mary Poppins, and Dick Van Dyke as Mr. Banks, the straight-laced and very strict father of two.

Then, on Tuesday, August 8, the State Theater will be showing its final film of the summer, The Secret Life of Pets.

If you have ever wondered what your pets do when you’re not home, you are about to find out in this hilarious kids’ animated comedy featuring the humorous antics of two dogs named Max and Duke.

For each film, showtimes are at 10:30 AM, and 7:00 PM.  The screenings are free and open to the public.

If you are bringing a group of 20 people or more to any one of these movie screenings, you can contact Erik Stratton, education associate at (732) 246-7469, Ex. 545.

So far, such movies as The Incredibles, Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, and Finding Dory have been shown at State Theater this summer.

The historic State Theater was built in 1921 and seats approximately 1,800 people in all.

“At this point, State Theater has had approximately 600 to 700 people per movie screening, which is nearly half the seating capacity,” said Kelly Blithe, Director of Communications at State Theater.

“Our goal here at State Theater is just to have a nice, comfortable, air-conditioned place for people to bring the whole family to watch a free movie on a hot summer day,” Blithe said.
