HIGHLAND PARK, NJ—Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew C. Carey said that a Franklin Township man plead guilty to sexually assaulting a woman in front of her nine-month old child on February 19.

Brandon Cox, age 23, is actually from Highland Park and merely spends weekends in Franklin Township, according to a Detective.

Court records available through the PROMIS/Gavel online database list Cox with yet another address, one in South Brunswick Township.

The defendant was charged with attempted murder, first-degree aggravated assault, and first-degree kidnapping.

However, the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office (MCPO) did not report that Cox was charged with attempted murder.

Cox has pled guilty to the first-degree aggravated assault, and first-degree kidnapping, after reaching a deal with Middlesex County Assistant  Prosecutor Allyssa Gambarella.

Under the agreement, Cox will be sentenced to 23 years in prison, and must serve 85% of the term before being eligable for parole.

Cox also must register as a sex offender under Megan’s Law, having previously failed to do so after a prior conviction.

There is currently no one under the name Brandon Cox, nor residing at his address, as recorded on his complaint warrant, in the New Jersey Sex Offender’s registry.

However, the MCPO has not specified by what date the defendant must register under Megan’s Law.

The defendent is still currently detained.   The hearing to impose the sentence is expected to be held on October 16.
