NORTH BRUNSWICK, NJ—Police announced they had arrested the man they believe is responsible for fatally shooting a 57-year-old man inside the North Brunswick Manor apartment complex.

Jerome Davis, a 40-year-old resident of N. Randolphville Road in Piscataway has been charged with homicide, contempt of a temporary restraining order, burglary, and possession of a weapon by certain persons who are not to have said weapons.

Davis’ charges followed the fatal shooting of Patrick Olarerin on May 14, the same day Davis was taken into custody.  Authorities announced the murder charge against him ten days later, but did not mention the other three charges.

Authorities also did not reveal to the public where specifically within the eleven square-mile Township the murder occurred in either of the two press releases the from Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office (MCPO) about the crime.

The killing occurred on the 1500 block of Birchwood Court, located in North Brunswick Manor, according to the NJ Adminsitrative Office of the Courts.

Olarerin was rushed to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital New Brunswick where he died shortly thereafter, according to Andrew C. Carey, Middlesex County Prosecutor.

According to a joint statement from Carey and North Brunswick Police Director Kenneth McCormick, after being held by authorities for five days, Davis was charged with homicide on May 19.

Both men credited an investigation by North Brunswick Detective Seeta Jones, and MCPO Detective David Abromaitis.

The prosecutor made a successful motion for pretrial detention, meaning Davis will remain behind bars as the case against him moves forward.

His next scheduled court appearance for Davis is set for July 13 at 9 a.m. at the Middlesex County Superior Court located at 56 Paterson Street in New Brunswick, according to a spokesman for the state judiciary.
