Live Music Showcase Features Students From Local Music School

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ–On January 21, the Octopus Music School held their adult student showcase at The Alfa Art Gallery at 108 Church Street.

The music school hosts annual performances twice a year, but is trying to increase the frequency of its live performances to bimonthly.

“The goal is to grant more opportunity to play live music and to be proactive and playing,” said Joseph Fekete, a Rutgers graduate and founder of The Octopus Music School.

The Garden State recently joined a multi-state legal settlement stemming from complaints against Western Union for not preventing fraudulent money transfers, according to the NJ Attorney General's Office.

Allegedly Posing as a Cop, Man Attacks Woman and Takes Her Car

EDISON, NJ—A man was arrested after allegedly attacking and carjacking a woman in the parking lot of an Edison strip mall, all while posing as a police officer.

John Spina, a 44-year-old man from Sayreville, then led actual police all the way to his hometown as they chased the stolen vehicle, before Spina crashed three times and injured himself.

The dramatic scene began to unfold on January 10 in the parking lot of the Wick Plaza shopping mall on Route 1, less than a mile from New Brunswick.

State Gives Recycling Grants to Six Middlesex County Towns

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—The Hub City is receiving $107,711 in state funding to promote recycling, according to a press release from the NJ Department of Environmental Protection (NJ-DEP).

It's all part of New Jersey's $14.3 million in recycling grants being given to towns across the state, as announced on January 5.

The NJ-DEP gives the grants to local municipalities based on past performance when it comes to recycling.

Woman Gets 30-Year Prison Sentence For 1991 Murder of Her Son

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—A woman who was convicted by a jury of killing her son, Timothy Wiltsey, in 1991 has been sentenced to serve 30 years in state prison.

The nation's attention was captured by the news of his disappearance that fall, with his picture and information shared all over news platforms and throughout the community.

Wiltsey's mother, Michele Lodzinski, kept changing her story about how or if the boy had disappeared, or if he had been abducted.
