NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ–The New Brunswick Police Department (NBPD) is “asking for the public’s help in identifying two suspects” in a daytime robbery that took place in a high-crime hot spot.

According to a NBPD press release, on December 4 at approximately 2pm, a 40-year-old man was assaulted after being approached from behind on Suydam Street.

The victim “was approached from behind and punched in the face by one of the suspects, and then his cellular phone was snatched from his hand and the suspects fled on foot towards Railroad Avenue,” reads the press release.

The exact location of the incident is unclear because police characterized it as occuring “on Suydam Street near Seaman Street.” Those two streets actually run parallel.

Given the direction that the suspects fled the scene, it most likely occurred between French Street and Joyce Kilmer Avenue, an area that has seen lots of crime in recent history.

The victim did not sustain any injury from the assault, according to the statement.

If anyone has information on the robbery or can assist in identifying the suspects, they are asked to call NBPD Detective Drew Weiss at (732) 745-5217.
