SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ—On November 21, local police announced the arrests of two women, including one from New Brunswick, following a raid on a Route 130 “spa” that authorities say was “a front for prostituion.”
Police siezed $823 cash, a 2010 Lexus, a television, and “numerous office items” in the raid, which was executed five days earlier on November 16.
A message sent through the South Brunswick Police Department (SBPD) Nixle alert system credited the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office (MCPO) and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security with working together with the department on a “three-month investigation.”
That investigation led to the arrests of 47-year-old Li Zhang, of New York City, and 49-year-old Ying Wen Mina, of New Brunswick. Â Both were charged with “promoting prostitution” before being released.
“Police received information in August that suspects had set up a business called Asian Pearly Spa at 2525 Route 130 and were using it for prostitution,” reads the Nixle alert.
“Detectives determined that some of the workers at the spa were taking buses out of New York City to come to the business.”
The MCPO did not issue a statement of its own about the incident, according to their online list of official press releases.
