CARTERET, NJ—Sandra Simon, a 32-year-old woman from the borough, was arrested and incarcerated on November 7, on charges that she fatally bludgeoned 59-year-old Hector W. Torres in his home.

Torres was found dead at 12:03 am on October 11, according to the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office (MCPO).

His body was found on the first floor of his rented home on Holly Street in Carteret.

According to the MCPO press release, Torres “suffered blunt force trauma to the head.”

“His body was discovered by police after an unidentified witness asked them to check on Mr. Torres, who was an acquaintance of the defendant,” read the release.

As previously reported by New Brunswick Today, the MCPO did not publicize the crime until nearly a week after it occurred, citing “investigative reasons.”

More than six days after the murder, on October 18 at 3:16pm, the MCPO notified the public of the crime via a press release, which was not sent to NBToday.

Simon’s bail is set at $750,000, and she remains in custody at the Middlesex County jail, according to their records department.

According to the MCPO’s statements, Simon was charged during an investigation by Detective Thomas O’Connor of the Carteret Police Department and Detective Joseph Chesseri of the MCPO.Â
