Rutgers Football Shut Out at Home in Biggest Loss Since 1888

PISCATAWAY, NJ—Suffering its worst loss in nearly 130 years, the Rutgers University football team struggled for the second week in a row, shut out in their home stadium by a laughably lopsided margin.

The loss, by a final score of 78-0, was so bad that it raised questions about the school's decision to focus on big-time athletics, including a recent decision to join the "Big Ten" athletic conference.

City Library to Host Special Olympics Program For Children

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—On Mondays this fall, the New Brunswick Public Library will be hosting a free “Young Athletes” program for children ages 2-7, sponsored by the Special Olympics of New Jersey.

The weekly program, which starts October 17, helps children improve gross motor skills, improve social and language skills, and develop skills for future participation in sports.

Rutgers Keeps Changing Story About Student Who Fell From Building

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—A new building that Rutgers University officials neglected to realize could easily be climbed by its student body has been modified to make it harder to mount, after an allegedly drunk student was seriously injured in a bad fall.

"This building is constructed in a manner that would easily allow, and may invite, some individuals to climb on top of it," read an email reported in the student newspaper, the Daily Targum.

Middletown North’s Balanced Attack Beats New Brunswick 31-20

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—On Friday October 7, the New Brunswick Zebras football team (1-4) got off to a good start but were ultimately outscored at home by the Middletown North Lions (3-1).

With quarterback Jah'Bree Seawright-Jeffery going 6 for 6 including a 41-yard touchdown to Kadas Reams to lead 7-0, along with a big defensive stop after the Lions failed a fourth and one conversion, the game looked promising for the Zebrasafter the the first six minutes of play.

Indictment: Amboy-Based Racketeering Extended to China and Lebanon

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—On October 5, a grand jury opted to indict 45 individuals and the same number of private companies in connection with an allegedly massive and intricate racket based in Middlesex County.

Carlos Alcantara, just 26 years old, is accused of being the head of the criminal organization that "fraudulently obtained more than $2 million in U.S. currency and fraudulently wired more than $15 million from victims’ accounts."

Congressman Frank Pallone Calls For Action on Gun Violence

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ–On Friday, September 16, Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital (RWJUH) welcomed United States Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr., to speak about gun violence as a public health issue.

Pallone represents the people of New Jersey’s 6th congressional district, and is a ranking member on the House Energy and Commerce Committee.

In attendance were representatives from the Brady Campaign, Million Moms March, the New Jersey State Nurses Association and the New Jersey Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics.

Proposed Rain Gardens Would Give City Library Exterior a Makeover

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—A new project proposed by several Rutgers University cooperatives could result in beautiful "rain gardens" adorning the New Brunswick Public Library by the end of October.

The proposal was presented to the city's Library Board of Trustees at its most recent meeting, where they were urged to quickly approve the project so the necessary grant funding, which runs out at the end of October, may be obtained.
