NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—Police are investigating an attack that happened shortly before midnight on Thursday, October 6 on Suydam Street near French Street.
According to Captain J.T. Miller of the New Brunswick Police Department (NBPD), two New Brunswick residents ages 22 and 25 were “assaulted, and received non-life threatening lacerations to the abdomen.”
Witnesses said they heard a commotion and minutes later the area was stormed by police and ambulances.
Paramedics were seen talking to one of the victims, who was leaning against a wall located at 342 Suydam Street.
Police arrested 32-year-old Cesar Garcia, of South River, at the scene. Garcia was charged with Aggravated Assault and Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose.
At this time there no known motive on what led to the attack. Local police have not publicized the incident with a crime alert or press release.
“This is nothing new,” said one concerned resident. “ There have been many crimes committed here and some go unreported.”
Just a couple of weeks earlier, a man was assaulted and robbed underneath the Northeast Corridor Railroad bridge over Suydam Street.
The victim was able to wave down a police vehicle that was passing by, before being taken away in an ambulance, according to residents.
