NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—The new academic year at New Brunswick Public Schools began on Tuesday, September 6.  According to the published school calendar, the school year will consist of 183 days weather permiting.
 The schedule includes two Jewish Holidays, Columbus Day, Election Day, two days off for the NJ Education Association (NJEA) Convention, two days of Thanksgiving recess, six days of Winter Break, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Presidents Day, six days of Spring Break, and Memorial Day.
The academic calendar provides three days for emergency days due to harsh weather. If days for emergency closing are not used, the last day for students and teachers will be June 15 and 16 respectively.
But if inclement weather or other problems cause school closures, the last day for students would be June 20 and the last day for teachers would be June 21.

This year, the New Brunswick Board of Education opened a new school, known as the Lincoln Annex. It was formerly a private school called St. Peter’s that closed in 2010, and it is located on Somerset Street.Â
The Paul Robeson school is undergoing renovations and students in that facility are attending classes inside the district’s “swing space” building on Van Dyke Avenue. Â It has also been re-named the Paul Robeson Community School for the Arts.
