BORDENTOWN, NJ—The body of a 29-year-old Somerset resident was discovered and removed from the Delaware River shortly after 11 a.m. on July 27.

NJ State Police spokesperson Captain Stephen Jones confirmed that the man found at mouth of Crosswicks Creek under the I-295 overpass was Juan Alberto, also known as Juan Henry Ulloa Alberto.

Alberto had been missing since he reportedly went for a swim in the river during a fishing trip on July 24.

According to Captain Jones, Alberto’s body was “found in the same area from which he went missing from.”

Alberto was a well-known person in the City of New Brunswick.  He worked as a barber, and often volunteered his services to low-income kids, according to a local non-profit.

A close friend of Alberto’s told NJ.com’s Cristina Rojas that Alberto was on a fishing trip with friends and, though he knew how to swim, he had been nursing some injuries from playing soccer.

Apparently the friends who were with him tried to rescue him, but was not successful due to the darkness.

A friend described him as kind, and as someone who would always help you when ever you needed it.
