Woodbridge Resident Charged in Perth Amboy Hit and Run

PERTH AMBOY, NJ–The Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office (MCPO) announced charges against Pishoi Bakoom, a 27-year-old Woodbridge resident, whom authorities allege struck a pedestrian on Convery Boulevard on June 24, before fleeing the scene in his 2012 BMW coupe.

The crash occurred near the intersection with Harding Avenue at about 11:11pm, according to a statement released by the MCPO on July 11, nearly three weeks after the incident.

Series of Free Film Screenings Kicks Off at State Theatre

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ–Summer is officially here and residents of New Brunswick are finding unique ways of spending their time to enjoy their relaxing, seasonal break.

The city's historic State Theatre, located on Livingston Avenue, will be offering free screenings of several films on Tuesdays now though mid-August.

On July 12, at 10:30 AM, the State Theatre of Livingston Ave. will be hosting a free screening of the Disney animated classic, “Frozen,” starring Kristen Bell and Idina Menzel.

New Brunswick Tomorrow Announces Jaymie Santiago as New President

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ —Jaymie Santiago has been announced as the new President of New Brunswick Tomorrow, a non-profit organization committed to improving the lives of New Brunswick's residents.

Santiago's promotion was effective on July 1, the same day it was announced.

Previously, he served as New Brunswick Tomorrow's Director of Program Operations and was subsequently promoted to Vice President before assuming the role of President.

Sky Blue FC Wins Over Houston in Piscataway

PISCATAWAY, NJ—On a cool and misty Saturday night, Sky Blue FC (4-4-4, 16 pts) was able to secure a 1-0 victory over the visiting Houston Dash (2-7-1, 7 pts) in front of their fans at Yurcak field on the Rutgers campus.

For Sky Blue, the region's team in the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL), this was a much-needed victory, as the team picked up three points to put them in playoff contention.

ODASIS Trabaja Para Que Estudiantes Desfavorecidos Tengan Éxito en Carreras de Ciencias

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ — La Oficina de Diversidad y Becas en Ciencias de Rutgers (ODASIS) comenzó hace treinta años gracias a los esfuerzos de la Dra. Francine Essien, una profesora Afroamericana de biología en Rutgers.

Ella trabajaba seis o siete días a la semana, llamaba estudiantes en las vacaciones de invierno para incentivarlos, y era a menudo el “donante anónimo” cuyas donaciones llegaban cuando el dinero para libros y estipendios había disminuido.
