County Prosecutor on His Alleged Ethics Violations: “No Comment”

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—Andrew Carey was not happy to run into a reporter, especially this one, on June 16.

Armed with a digital camera, New Brunswick Today was actively recording Carey's walk down College Avenue to his illegally-parked, county-owned sport utility vehicle.

This reporter asked the county's top law enforcement officer (LEO) if he had any response to NBToday's coverage of his own financial disclosure forms.

Plays in the Park Closes Out Summer Season With “South Pacific”

EDISON, NJ—Middlesex County’s “Plays in the Park” is closing out its summer 2016 season with a two-week run of the classic Rodgers and Hammerstein musical “South Pacific.”

The musical performances run from July 27 through August 6, with the exception of Sunday, July 31. All performances begin at 8:30 pm  at the Stephen J. Capestro Theater, located in Roosevelt Park, just south of the Menlo Park Mall.

Two Former NBHS Students Die as Vehicle Crashes Into Raritan

NEW BRUNSWICK,NJ—Two people died when a vehicle that may have been racing on Route 18 lost control, and crashed into the Raritan River near the Northeast Corridor railroad viaduct on July 25.

The crash happened at about 12:56am, just across the highway from the worldwide headquarters of Johnson & Johnson.

Shortly thereafter, ambulances and firefighters were looking for the vehicle in the woods between the highway and the river, according to emergency radio transmissions.

Author Discusses Women in the Works and Life of J.R.R. Tolkien

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ–On July 27, Janet Brennan Croft, co-editor of "Perilous and Fair: Women in the Works and Life of J.R.R. Tolkien," will be the featured author in Rutgers University's "AuthorTalks" series.

The event will be held at the Alexander Library, located at 169 College Avenue, on the Rutgers New Brunswick campus at 4:00pm.

Brennan Croft is considered an expert on fantasy authors, including J. R. R. Tolkien, the high fantasy author of The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings, and The Silmarillion.

Two Hospitalized After Being Assaulted With an “Edged Weapon”

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—City police detectives are investigating an "aggravated assault" that allegedly occurred on July 23 at a house party on Huntington Street, according to a crime alert issued by Rutgers University.

Around 11pm, a fight broke out at the party, which was held inside a residence near Buccleuch Park, St. Peter's University Hospital, and the Bank of America on Easton Avenue.

Sky Blue FC Extends Win Streak with Victory Over Spirit

PISCATAWAY, NJ—On July 23, Sky Blue FC (6-4-4, 22 pts) secured a 1-0 victory over the visiting Washington Spirit (8-2-3, 26 pts) in front of their fans at Yurcak field on the Rutgers campus.

Achieving something they haven't since 2014, Sky Blue FC extended their unbeaten to streak to three and disrupted Washington's first-place chances, sending themselves into a tied position for fourth place with the Chicago Red Stars.
