Cruz Earns All-Blue Division Honors as NBHS Boys Tennis Team Produces First Winning Season in 30+ Years

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ— Finishing 11-9 overall, 7-7 in the GMC blue division as the fifth best team, years of hard work have finally paid off to disrupt an over 30-year old losing pattern.

The team earned three points at GMCs this year, advancing all three singles flights from the preliminary round to the 1st Round, consisting of all-blue division player and MVP, Abelardo Cruz, Felix Rojas, and Francisco Brena.

Brunswick-Based Blood Center Declares “Blood Emergency”

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ–New Jersey Blood Services and its parent organization, New York Blood Center (NYBC), declared a "Blood Emergency" on June 15, encouraging the community to donate blood and organize blood drives.

"The blood supply to our communities has reached a critically low level, with under a two-day supply of O negative, B negative, and A negative," reads a press release issued by the independent agency.

PERTH AMBOY, NJ–Video of city police officer Davis Salazar slamming resident Edwin Rodriguez to the ground in his home on State Street shed new light on the Perth Amboy Police Department's recent decision to grant Rodriguez an $850,000 settlement in a subsequent civil suit.

The footage, obtained by New Brunswick Today, begins with Salazar standing in the doorway of Rodriguez's residence in Perth Amboy on Sept. 5, 2013, ordering Rodriguez to produce identification.

Autopsy Not Yet Complete on Man Who Died After Struggle With HPPD

HIGHLAND PARK, NJ—The county's Medical Examiner has not finished its autopsy of 28-year-old Edison resident Daniel Nagahama, who passed away on June 2 after an altercation with borough police.

Nagahama was hospitalized and died, "hours after he struggled with police who revived him when they found him laying on a street in Highland Park," according to the Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office (MCPO).

Resident Credits BA For Quick Response to Dangerous Wires

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—On May 18, a longtime city resident who often brings safety complaints to the New Brunswick City Council credited the city's Business Administrator for his quick and personal response to a dangerous situation.

Danielle Moore said she left early from the February 3 Council meeting, where she had just raised concerns about hanging wires left unchecked around the Hub City, only to find a bunch of dangling utility wires after outside her home on Rutgers Street.
