EDISON, NJ—Police are searching for a “gunman” wanted in connection with the shooting of a 29-year-old man at about 12:45am on June 21, according to a press release from the Edison Police Department (EPD).

The incident occurred in the parking lot outside the Kilmer Homes Apartments, a new affordable housing complex that opened in South Edison last year.

A spokesperson for the Township confirmed that police were still searching for the gunman as of June 28, one week after the shooting.

The victim, a tenant at the complex, was shot once in the chest, according to the press release.

“He underwent emergency surgery to remove the bullet earlier today at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick,” read the release, which noted he was in “stable condition in the hospital’s intensive care unit.”

Police responded to the complex after receiving a call from the victim’s wife, and found the victim collapsed onto their apartment floor.

“Officers searched the apartment building, its grounds and streets in the area for the gunman to no avail,” read the press release.

Detective William Colletto “reported finding several shell casings in the street outside and bullet holes in the victim’s gray Acura TL,” according to EPD Lt. Robert Dudash.

The complex was jointly developed by The Alpert Group, LLC, Edison Affordable Housing, Inc., and Monarch Housing Associates, Inc, with federal affordable housing funds and assistance from the county government.

The developers recently held a ribbon-cutting celebrating the second phase of the 120-unit  project, which is named for the famous Brunswick-based poet Joyce Kilmer, also the namesake of the military camp that once occupied the same land.

According to Monarch Housing, the rental rates for the complex range from $900-$1,300 per month plus utilities for units with between one and three bedrooms.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Edison Detective Michael Michalski at (732) 248-7525.
