UPDATE (5/19): Authorities the identified the driver as 49-year-old Jeffrey W. Troxell of South Amboy.
Troxell was charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, and two counts of eluding police.  His bail was set at $150,000.
PISCATAWAY, NJ—The Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office (MCPO) is investigating an incident where police shot at a man on May 18, before apprehending him with the help of a taser following a police chase that ended in a graveyard.
It all began at about 11:18 am when the man allegedly ran a red light in New Brunswick, according to the authorities. Â That drew the attention of Rutgers Police, who unsuccessfully attempted to stop the man’s 2002 Honda Accord before breaking off the pursuit.
And it all ended about 40 minutes later and a few miles away, shortly after Piscataway Police spotted the vehicle on Hoes Lane.
The man allegedly drove into the Resurrection Cemetery, just a few blocks away from the Busch campus of Rutgers University, where his vehicle struck a Piscataway officer, the same cop who fired a shot at the man.
“The suspect led officers through the cemetery, and circled a number of headstones near a funeral service before his vehicle became mired in the soil,” reads a press release from the MCPO.
However, the MCPO still has not identified the suspect or the officer who was allegedly fired at him, nor have they disclosed the exact location where the pursuit first began.
“The identity of the suspect is being withheld since no charges have been filed yet,” said the MCPO. “He also was taken to the hospital and was being treated for a minor, but unspecified injury.”
“The police officer… was taken to Robert Wood Johnson Hospital were he was treated for an unspecified injury and was released.”
The MCPO release also does not make clear the order of events including the firing of the shot, the officer being struck by the vehicle, and the vehicle becoming “mired in the soil.”
The NJ Attorney General’s Office was notified “immediately” according to the MCPO, “in accordance with the state’s use-of- force guidelines.”
Piscataway Police also notified the public of the developing situation using their Nixle emergency alert system.
“POLICE ACTIVITY IN AREA OF RESURRECTION CEMETERY/ HOES LANE / MORRIS AVE ATTEMTP TO APPREHEND SUSPECT STATY AWAY FROM AREA. RESIDENTS STAY IN HOMES,” read the alert which went out at about 11:51am.
By 12:03pm, local police were trying to communicate that the suspect had been apprehended and the area was safe once again. Â Footage from a news helicopter showed Piscatway police vehicles surrounding the suspect vehicles amidst the graveyard.
