Bumble Bee Retira 31.000 Casos de Atún Por Posible Contaminación

SAN DIEGO, CA– Bumble Bee Foods dijo el 16 de marzo que se está retirando 31,579 casos de atún enlatado debido a ciertas "desviaciones del proceso" durante la esterilización que podrían ser letales si se consumen.

Este error potencialmente podría ocasionar una enfermedad mortal si se consume, según la compañía, señalando que podría resultar en "contaminación por organismos en descomposición o agentes patógenos."

El Municipio de la Ciudad Ofrece Subsidios Para Pequeños Negocios en el Área de French Street

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ– Tiendas, empresas de servicios y oficinas en la zona de French Street y sus alrededores pueden calificar para recibir subvenciones de hasta $20,000 para mejorar las fachadas exteriores de sus edificios.

El programa permite que el gobierno de la ciudad duplique la inversión de las empresas individuales que desean mejorar sus fachadas frontales.

Prosecutor: NBPA Valets Sold Spaces in Abandoned County-Owned Parking Garage and Pocketed The Cash

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—The more things change, the more they stay the same.

County prosecutor Andrew Carey announced on April 7 that four New Brunswick Parking Authority (NBPA) employees were arrested on charges of conspiracy, bribery, and theft.

The revelation means that a total of eleven men working for the authority have now been charged with crimes related to their office since 2010.

Bill Moyers to Speak at Rutgers-New Brunswick Commencement

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—The Rutgers Board of Governors announced that the university's 2016 commencement speaker will be Bill Moyers, a major figure in broadcast journalism for decades.

The announcement came at the board's April 6 meeting in Winants Hall on College Avenue.  Moyers' speech will be open to the public at the May 15 graduation ceremony scheduled for Rutgers Stadium in Piscataway.

RWJ and Barnabas Complete Merger, Creating RWJBarnabas

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—On March 31, Robert Wood Johnson Health System and Barnabas Health have merged to create "the most comprehensive health system in the state of New Jersey."

The combined healthcare system will reach about five million people, or more than half of New Jersey's entire population. 

It is now the state's second-largest employer with more than 32,000 employees.

Franklin Township Smoothie King Franchise Goes Down

FRANKLIN, NJ–The Smoothie King Franchise in Somerset at Franklin Commons Shopping Center was issued a “Warrant of Removal,” by Somerset County, Superior Court of N.J., and is shuttered, according to a docket displayed through the store window.

The landlord, Franklin Commons Retail, LLC, apparently took control of the store last month, possibly locking the doors on the franchise owner, Bill Leitner, of CJ Smoothies LLC, who operated the Smoothie King at 458 Elizabeth Avenue and Schoolhouse Road.
