PISCATAWAY, NJ–January 2016 marks the kickoff of the first-ever Rutgers Filmmaker series where a variety of international filmmakers will screen their works free of charge and engage in a question and answer discussion.
The series kicks off with a screening of “Amadeus” on January 28 at 6pm at Rutgers Cinema on Livingston campus (105 Joyce Kilmer Ave., Piscataway) with special guest star, Tom Hulce.
This 1984 period drama tells the story of the famous composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, played by Tom Hulce, as told by his secret rival, Antonio Salieri, played by Murray Abraham.
The second screening will be on March 3 at 6pm in the Civic Square Building (33 Livingston Ave., New Brunswick) with a screening of “The Iron Ministry” with special guest, J.P. Sniadecki . This film is a documentary of China’s railway network, soon to be the largest in the world.
One week later, on March 10 at 6pm at the Rutgers Cinema, Daniel Hui will be screening his film, “Snakeskin,” a hybrid documentary and symphony film that tells the history of oppression in Singapore, both in Singapore’s physical landscape as well as its collective unconscious.
On Thursday April 7 at 6pm in the Civic Square Building, Athina Rachel Tsangari will be presenting her film, “Attenberg.” The Greek Drama centers around Marina, a 23-year old woman living in a dull factory town who must deal with obstacles caused by her father’s impending death and her dislike of other people.
On April 14 at 6 pm in the Rutgers Cinema, Philippe Grandrieux will be showcasing his film, “Un Lac” a French drama centered around woodcutter Alexi who struggles with epilepsy and has only his family for companionship, that is, until a wandering lumberjack enters his life.
Finally, on April 21 at 6pm in the Rutgers Cinema, Lav Diaz will be Screening, “ The Storm Children: Book One”; a historical documentary about the destruction caused by Typhon Haiyan or Yolanda in the Phillipines.
All of the screenings are free and open to the public.
