NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ–Police confirmed that a New Brunswick Police Department (NBPD) vehicle was struck by an SUV shortly before 2am on January 3 near 120 Jersey Avenue.

At approximately 1:39 am, NBPD unit #959 was struck by a Honda CRV that police say was being driven by an intoxicated woman from New Brunswick.

It was the second major crash in the same area in as many nights.  Just two nights earlier, a city man was arrested after wrecking a stolen BMW on French Street.

In the Jersey Avenue crash, the driver of the Honda was identified as 51-year-old Miguelina Fragoso-Gonzalez, according to NBPD Captain JT Miller.

Fragoso-Gonzalez was charged with driving while intoxicated, and both the police vehicle and her vehicle “sustained significant damage,” said Miller.

“The officers occupying the involved police vehicle sustained minor injuries which were treated at RWJUH and they were released,” said Miller.  “The occupants of the Honda reported no injuries.”

It was also the second crash involving a NBPD vehicle in two nights.

As we reported, on the night of January 1, an unmarked vehicle was struck by a suspect fleeing North Brunswick police, but Miller said that the damage to that vehicle was minimal.

“The damage to the New Brunswick police vehicle with minimal (scratch on the bumper) and no injuries were reported,” wrote Miller.
