Coalition Aims to Change Conversation on Rutgers’ 250th Anniversary

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—A student-led coalition called Reclaim Revolution has emerged at Rutgers University in response to the university's celebration of its 250th anniversary.

The coalition aims to address the true history of Rutgers, one they argue is being whitewashed by the administration's celebrations, which repeatedly market the university as "revolutionary."

Police Radio: Man on Bicycle Robs Another Man at Gunpoint

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—New Brunswick Police Department (NBPD) is investigating an armed robbery that occurred in broad daylight on Handy Street the morning of December 17.

According to police radio transmissions, no one was injured and the suspect fled on a bicycle after showing a handgun and taking his victim's cell phone at approximately 9:18am.

It is the latest in a string of violent crimes that city police have not publicized nor solved.

Rutgers Linebacker Steve Longa Declares for 2016 NFL Draft

PISCATAWAY, NJ–The Rutgers career of weakside linebacker Steve Longa came to a swift end on December 22 when the redshirt junior announced he will forgo his senior season with the Scarlet Knights and declare for the 2016 NFL Draft.

Longa is coming off his best season on the banks, as he recorded 113 tackles despite dealing with a nagging upper body injury for much of the season that even forced him to miss a game.

In each of his three years with the Scarlet Knights, Longa led the team in tackles.

Bridgestone and Pep Boys Agree on Merger

EDISON, NJ–Pep Boys currently has 30 “Supercenters” and twelve “Service & Tire Centers” in the Garden State but recently agreed to be acquired for $863 million by tire maker Bridgestone.

Bridgestone operates several stores of its own in NJ, including: 43 Firestone “Complete Auto Care” shops and five Mr. Tire “Auto Parts Centers.”

But Bridgestone recently demonstrated that it wants even more retail stores throughout the U.S. and NJ.

Urban Fiction Writer Takerra Allen is Straight Out of Brunswick

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ–Author Takerra Allen, raised in New Brunswick, has written ten books, including the 2010 African American Literary Award nominated hit novel, "Heaven's Hell."

The daughter of former Black Panther William Garland and half-sister to the renowned rapper Tupac Shakur, Takerra has been featured in several publications and has a huge fan-following.

Takerra is proud to acknowledge that her New Brunswick roots helped lay the foundation for her career as an urban fiction writer.
