NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ–In recognition of October being Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the men and women of the New Brunswick Fire Department served their community in custom-made pink t-shirts in support of the fight against breast cancer.

The department supported the Sisters Network of Central New Jersey, a non-profit gorup based in Somerset, by raising money through the sale of pink breast cnacer awareness shirts.

Altogether the New Brunswick Fire Department raised $7,000 to be donated, raised by selling the shirts for $20 each.

All of the proceeds went towards the fight against the deadly disease, and to support women in need who are currently fighting breast cancer.

The Sisters Network of Central New Jersey supports and advocates for African-American mothers, wives, sisters and neighbors affected by breast cancer all throughout the community.

“We raise money and give it back to the women in our community and these donations will help many women in their time of need. We thank the New Brunswick Fire Department so much,” said Dorothy Reed, president of the organization.

Cheryl Smith, a worker for the New Brunswick Fire Department, led the selling of t-shirts.
