Crime Alert: NBPD Investigating Aggravated Assault on Easton

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—Another Rutgers-affiliated person was injured in a violent assault on Friday, October 9 at approximately 2:10 A.M. at the intersection of Easton Avenue and Mine Street, according to a Rutgers University crime alert.

The incident occurred shortly after last call at the city's dozens of bars, including Olde Queens Tavern, which is located at the same intersection.

New Brunswick Police Department (NBPD) Detectives were seen checking out surveillance video from a nearby shop later in the day.

Electrical Issue Impacts City Court and County Prosecutor’s Office

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ–’The offices of Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew Carey were without electricity for two hours in the county-owned, but privately-managed "Civic Square" building at 25 Kirkpatrick Street.

The power outage occurred on Tuesday, October 6, but no authorities publicized the problem, or any contingency plans implemented.

On October 8, Middlesex County Freeholder H. James Polos confirmed that the Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office (MCPO) had been affected by the sudden outage two days earlier.

Sculpture Exhibit at Zimmerli For Rutgers’ 250th Anniversary

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ–Until January 10, 2016, the Zimmerli Art Museum at Rutgers University will be hosting the work of a former Rutgers profressor in an exhibit titled, "Melvin Edwards: Five Decades."

A professor of sculpture from 1972-2002, Melvin Edwards returns with his best known series, "Lynch Fragments," his barbed wire pieces originally shown at the Whitney Museum of Modern Art in 1970, and many more.

Director de Recreación Deja su Puesto en el Gobierno de la Ciudad después de 29 años

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—El Director de Recreación de mucho tiempo ha dejado su puesto de trabajo en esta ciudad, lo que desató una feroz competencia, pero tranquila para reemplazarlo.

Michael Blackwell se desempeñó como Director de Recreación de Cahill para la mayor parte de sus 24 años en el cargo, y trabajó para la ciudad durante más de 29 años. Ilusionaba de construir múltiples centros de adolescentes en New Brunswick.

NBPD Union Contracts Extended Four More Years, Through 2021

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—The city's rank-and-file police and superior officers will be getting annual raises  through the year 2021 under a four-year contract extension approved 5-0 by the City Council on October 7.

Mayor James Cahill is expected to sign off on the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the New Brunswick Police Benevolent Association (PBA) 23 and 23A, which will continue the existing pattern of annual raises.

Rutgers Honors Former Governor Jim Florio at Bloustein

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—Rutgers University will be honoring erstwhile governor of New Jersey, James Florio, who is also a member of the Rutgers faculty, on October 14 in downtown New Brunswick.

The Edward J. Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy is naming a scholarship and one of its rooms after Florio at the special event.

The festivities kick off at 4 pm in the Civic Square Building at 33 Livingston Avenue.
