UPDATE (10/31): Police identified the suspect as 18-year-old Daniel Leandry, a Rutgers University student from Garfield. Leandry is currently jailed at the Middlesex County Workhouse on $735,000 bail.
One of Leandry's alleged victims was a Rutgers student, the other was not.
According to The Tab, the dormitory was evacuated after students observed one of the victims being wheeled out of the third floor of the dormitory, pleading "Please don't let me die."
NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—College Avenue turned into a crime scene on October 30 as Rutgers University Police Department (RUPD) investigated a double-stabbing at Mettler Hall.
The suspect in the incident, which occurred in the lobby of the dormitory shortly before 7pm, may have also suffered serious injuries.
Ambulances were dispatched to the main residential quad on campus, where Brett, Tinsley, and Mettler Halls are located. Mettler is home to first-year students.
"Earlier tonght, we had an aggravated assault in front of Mettler Hall," said RUPD Deputy Cheif Michael Rein.
"We found 2 victims," said Rein. "The victims were transported to Robert Wood [Johnson University Hospital]."
Rein said that a suspect who was "apprehended within the residence hall within 10 minutes."
According to police radio transmissions, authorities located a "third victim" in room #315, who turned out to resemble the suspect description.
Rein said that the investigation is "very active" and that "it's unknown" whether the victims or suspect are Rutgers students.
