NEWARK, NJ—Peter Greer, 41, of New Brunswick was sentenced today to 87 months, or just over seven years, in prison for his role in two bank robberies, U.S. Attorney Paul J. Fishman announced.
Greer, age 41, previously pleaded guilty before U.S. District Judge Katharine S. Hayden to information charging him with two counts of bank robbery.
As we reported previously, Greer was facing charges in three other bank robberies, including two in Belleville and one in Passaic.
Judge Hayden imposed the sentence on September 23 in Newark federal court, as stated in a recent press release from United States Department of Justice (USDOJ).
According to documents filed in this case and statements made in court:
Greer admitted using intimidation to rob the Valley National Bank in Newark on Sept. 27, 2012. Greer entered the bank, approached the bank teller and provided a note that said “give me the money in hundred dollar bills.”
The teller complied and Greer fled the bank with the money. Greer also admitted to using intimidation to rob the rob Sovereign Bank, located in Newark on Oct. 31, 2012.
Greer entered the bank, approached the bank teller and provided a note that said “I have a gun, give me money.” This time the teller did not comply, and Greer fled the bank without any money.
The USDOJ release also stated that Judge Hayden sentenced Greer to three years of supervised release and ordered him to pay restitution of $18,094.
U.S. Attorney Fishman credited special agents of the FBI, under the direction of Special Agent in Charge Richard M. Frankel in Newark, with the investigation leading to charges.
He also thanked the Passaic Police Department and the Passaic County Sheriff’s Department for their contribution to the case.
The government is represented by Assistant U.S. Attorney Meredith Williams of the Criminal Division in Newark.
The defense counsel was lead by Linda Foster, an Assistant Federal Public Defender.
