NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—More than three dozen restaurants took part in the city’s annual “Restaurant Week” this year, including Shaka Burrito, La Bagel, Chapati House, and Harvest Moon.
Thirty-seven restaurants participated, up slightly from last year, when 35 different establishments participated.
“City Market is pleased report that the 2015 New Brunswick Restaurant week was once again a resounding success. Restaurants reported that they saw an increase in visitors requesting the Restaurant Week specials,” said Pam Stefanek, the head of New Brunswick City Market.
Despite its name, this year’s event ran for two weeks from July 11-25. Most of the participating restaurants can be found within George Street or the downtown area.
“With all the incredible options New Brunswick has to offer it is possible to eat something different every day for lunch and dinner during this two week extravaganza,” said Stefanek.
Through these efforts New Brunswick City Market hopes to create positive economic and cultural impact for New Brunswick.
Filippo’s Pizza, located on George Street, has been involved in Restaurant Week since it began 6 years ago.
Owner, Camille Filippo, said, “I love New Brunswick, love the people. They come here, try my food and give me compliments.”
Restaurant Week allows patrons to take advantage of special promotions and deals at their favorite local food locations, as well as ones they’ve never tried before.
Many establishments offer flat discounts on dinners, new menu items for a reduced price, or classic lunch options such as a “two for one” deal
The New Brunswick City Market set up this event in support of their “Shop Local” initiative, which helps local businesses during this slow time of year when many residents are out of town.
The NB City Market also partnered with WCTC 1450 AM to host live radio talks at various participating restaurants. City Market also held promotions on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram where anyone could win dining certificates for after Restaurant Week concludes.
Indochine, a Vietnamese restaurant located on George Street, has taken part of the event since last year. Sam Fanous, manager of Indochine, says of the event, “It’s good. It’s good for business.”
At Indochine, patrons were able to enjoy a free appetizer if they ordered two or more entrees. This reporter enjoyed the chicken pho and for dessert couldn’t pass up the opportunity to try their mochi ice cream.
The pressed rice and fruit flavored ice cream balls were the perfect treat during this summer weather.
Restaurant Week will return next summer for another two weeks.
