Increasing Options to Eat Healthy in The Hub City

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—It can be hard in a city, even for longtime residents, to discern where to find healthy alternatives to fast food, processed food, and other unhealthy options.

The last few years has seen the emergence of a new mindset promoting healthier modes of eating, and New Brunswick is no exception.

Located just off of Route 1, the Rutgers Gardens Farmers Market is held every Friday between 11am-5pm from May through November.

Lawmakers Introduce Bill to Make Community College Free Across USA

WASHINGTON, D.C—Members of U.S. Congress introduced legislation on July 8 that would implement the Obama administration's effort to make technical schools and two-year community colleges free for low-income students. 

Roughly ten sponsors and over 60 cosponsors, led by Senator Tammy Baldwin of Wisconsin and Congressman Bobby Scott of Virginia, introduced the bill, known as "America's College Promise Act.

Starbucks Raises Prices at Some Stores Including New Brunswick

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ–On July 7, Starbucks coffee shops raised prices on some beverages amid the rising cost of wages and rent, according to the Wall Street Journal.

Asked if the Hub City Starbucks at 351 George Street would increase any of its prices, a Starbucks spokesperson stated: "The price adjustment applies to all company-operated stores across the country, including those in NJ."

The George Street location is company-operated, yet management declined to comment on the new pricing.

State Education Board Says It Will Largely Continue Common Core Standards

TRENTON, NJ—Education officials said at the July 8 New Jersey State Board of Education meeting that, while the state no longer officially subscribes to "Common Core" standards, it will try not to drastically change those standards. 

The education standards have become increasingly polarizing in recent years, with conservative politicians citing them as an example of federal overreach.
