Cuatro Comunidades Siguen la Iniciativa de New Brunswick sobre el Problema de Robo Salarial

JERSEY CITY, NJ – Algunas de las ciudades más grandes del estado están siguiendo la iniciativa de New Brunswick sobre el problema de robo salarial.

En Julio de 2015, el Concejo Municipal de Jersey City aprobó por unanimidad una ordenanza anti-robo salarial que permite a las autoridades suspender o negar licencias de funcionamiento de negocios a aquellos propietarios que se encuentran cometiendo robo de salarios.

Four Communities Follow New Brunswick’s Lead on Wage Theft Issue

JERSEY CITY, NJ–Some of the state's largest cities are now following New Brunswick's lead on the issue of wage theft.

On July 15, Jersey City Council unanimously passed an anti-wage theft ordinance, which allows authorities to suspend or deny business licenses to owners that are found to be committing wage theft.

It becomes the fifth ordinance of this kind to be adopted in the state, after the unprecedented efforts of activists and members of New Labor and Unity Square to investigate and expose the problem in New Brunswick.

22-Year-Old Rutgers Grad Dies During Final Shift as EMT

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—Just weeks away from beginning the next stage in reaching her dream of becoming a doctor, Rutgers graduate Hinal Patel died doing what she loved.

Patel, 22, an emergency medical technician with Spotswood Emergency Medical Services, was killed July 25 when her ambulance – en route to an emergency– collided with a car in East Brunswick. 

Her shift that day was intended to be her last before resuming her studies.

NBPA to Test Using License Plate Readers to Give Tickets

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—The city's parking authority is looking to use license plate readers (LPR's), the same technology that local police departments have been using to quickly look up registration information on vehicles.

Mitch Karon, the Executive Director of the New Brunswick Parking Authority (NBPA), told his board on July 22 that it will soon be debuting the technology for a 90-day trial period and using it to enforce permit parking on city streets.

Dream, Believe, Succeed: Rutgers Future Scholars Program Works with New Brunswick Students

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ–The phrase “dream, believe, succeed” is more than just a decorative motto on the t-shirts designed for the Rutgers Future Scholars (RFS) program.

Dr. Eve Remsen Sachs, program coordinator of the Rutgers Future Scholars, discussed the program’s functions and objectives.

“The purpose is to offer hope, opportunity, and the promise of scholarship support if admitted to college,” Sachs said.

Lost Yiddish Operetta to be Performed at Rutgers

NEW YORK, NY—The National Yiddish Theatre Folksbiene will present a long lost operetta at the Nicholas Music Center at Rutgers University as part of the 2015 Mason Gross Summer Series, on August 5 at 7 p.m.

The NYTF is the world’s longest running and America’s only surviving Yiddish Theater Company.

The operetta, entitled Di Goldene Kale, which translates to The Golden Bride, is a story about an orphan girl who attracts many suitors after she gains an inheritance.
