NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—On Thursday, May 21 at noon, the Women’s League of Rutgers University (WLRU) will hold its annual luncheon at the Rutgers Club, located at 199 College Avenue.
The luncheon’s main speaker is Kofi Genfi, a technology consultant, spoken word artist, and freelance writer who will address “raising women’s self-awareness through community service.”
A graduate from Rutgers University’s School of Engineering and member of Iota Phi Theta Fraternity, Genfi is described as a “multi-faceted artist who began his artistry through spoken word, poetry and motivational talks.”
“Genfi artfully depicts the strength and courage of the black community to overcome adversity while seeking truth in a landscape filled with pitfalls. His works not only serve to elucidate the struggles and triumphs of urban life, but as a call to action for young black men to shed the weight of demoralizing statistics and advance their status through hard work, perseverance and faith,” according to his website.
The WLRU believes Genfi’s message will resonate with their members, who are currently raising funds for their Outstanding Third Year Student Award Scholarship program.
At their 31st Annual Awards reception last year, the League awarded $1,000 scholarships to 12 students who demonstrated academic excellence, commitment to public service, and financial need.
