NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ–The New Brunswick Police Department (NBPD) is investigating a robbery in which four male suspects held up several victims at knifepoint near a liquor store at the corner of Louis Street and Central Avenue.

The liquor store had been closed for hours when the robbery occurred at approximately 2:11 a.m. on Thursday, April 30.

The victims were affiliated with Rutgers University, according to a RUPD crime alert issued later that day.

Police said that the victims were walking in the area when four male suspects approached them, each displaying a knife.

The group allegedly demanded the wallets of their victims and other valuable items.

The suspects removed “items of value” from the victims and fled the area down Central Avenue towards Dix Street.

The suspects were described as four black males, approximately 15 and 18 years old, with thin builds, between 5′ 10″ and 6 feet tall.  One may have been wearing a blue flanel shirt, according to police radio transmissions.

The NBPD is actively investigating these incidents and asks that anyone with information to contact the NBPD Detective Bureau at 732-745-5217.

On April 13, a woman from South Bound Brook was pulled over on the same block of Louis Street and charged with offenses related to the possession of a stolen hand gun, hollow point bullets, and crack cocaine.

The latest incident marks the 22nd this year to generate a Rutgers University crime alert, and the 21st in New Brunswick.
